(Note: Diction is usually ONE POWERFUL WORD that you know well– and usually adjectives are the best to analyze.) • What connotations (thoughts/ideas/images) come to mind when you hear this word? • What’s the overall mood of the poem (main emotion created in the reader)? • What is slightly ironic about this poem?` • Why do you think Tu Fu wrote this poem? What was he trying to communicate about life, about great people, or about the past, etc.?
