Role of BOCCIM - Advocacy • Influencing Government Policy through engagement in Constructive Dialogue - HLCC, SLCC & LLCC • Advocate for the creation of a business friendly environment in the country
Role of BOCCIM - Representation • Represent private sector interest and articulate the views of business in various policy making bodies at various levels. • Ensure that private sector has representation in the different committees set up by government.

Relationship with Government • High Level Consultative Council (HLCC): Chaired by His Excellency the President, this body meets twice a year to discuss issues of mutual benefit to both private sector and government. Resolves any concerns that may be tabled by business. • Sectoral LCC: Chaired by the Minister, this forum addresses private sector problems at a lower level than the HLCC.
Relationship with Government - continued • National Business Conference: A biennial forum which brings together private sector, government and civil society to discuss the challenges faced by the economy. Resolutions reached at this conference are acted upon by government through pronouncements in the National Budget. • Rural Development Council; An important body that looks at how developments can be efficiently made in the rural areas to amongst others curb the rural urban migration, attract investment to the rural areas, in which BOCCIM is an important member.
Relationship with Government - continued • Business Councils: These represent private sector at the local level. With 15 of these in the major centres in the country, BOCCIM is able to keep its finger on the mood and pulse of the economy enabling necessary interventions to be made.
International Relations • Member of the International Organisation of Employers & Private Sector representative in the ILO • Member of the Pan African Employers Confederation • Have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the India Merchants Chamber / Thailand – 2012 with the National Black Chamber of Commerce
Achievements • Immigration Reforms – Point Based System • Tax Reform • Liberalization of Exchange Control • Initiated the Privatisation Study • SMME Policy resulting in the establishment of BEDIA, CEDA, LEA. • Citizen Economic Empowerment Debate • Business and Economic Advisory Council • E-commerce & e-gov strategy (online booking and interactive marketing)

E-commerce & e-gov strategy (online booking and interactive marketing) PSDS aims at spearheading diversification & development & growth of the economy through increased investments, and promotes foreign direct investment and joint partnerships. BOCCIM addressing these challenges through strategy/ policy reform or proposals.
