Ms. Arter Lab Safety Scenario Game • You and a partner will get a lab safety scenario and a list of lab safety rules • Scenario must remain upside down until teacher says “GO” • After “GO”, use your list of rules to find ALL the things wrong with your scenario • On a blank piece of paper, write down the rule that was broken and why. • “Rule 12 because the students forgot to…”

If something spills or breaks, alert the teacher FIRST. Carefully, slowly read all directions before you do anything else. 03. Food and drink are prohibited in a lab setting. 04. No rough-housing or running in lab. 05. If you do not know what to do, ask the teacher!

Know how chemicals react before you heat them. 03. When heating chemicals, make sure the container is held by the correct tool. a. The opening of the container should always be pointed away form yourself and others. b. Do not cork or cover the opening of a container that is being heated.

Never mix chemicals other than what was instructed by teacher. 04. If you took too much of a chemical, do NOT put it back in its original container. a. Ask teacher what to do with extra.

Teacher will not answer questions about procedures, but direct student to read the directions again. • Inappropriate lab behavior will result in student being removed from his/her group and working alone, or not participating in labs at all. 

She refuses to wear them. • Allie and David accidentally break a beaker full of some chemical. Instead of risking getting in trouble they quickly clean up the mess with paper towel and throw it in the garbage.
