  2. Page 18 • The three major functions of the forum are: • Business • Religion • Government • The forum was a large open area surrounded on 3 sides by a colonnade. • The dimensions of the forum are 156 yards long by 42 yards wide.

  3. Page 18 • The forum had a stone floor. • Statues could be found in the open space. • Ironware and Shoes are the goods sold by the merchants in the picture.

Page 19 • A colonnade is a structure made from columns that provided a corridor for people to use and shield them from the elements • No wheeled traffic was permitted in the forum • Wheeled traffic was prohibited by upright stones at each entrance. • Public information was distributed through noticeboards and graffiti.

  5. Page 19 • The Temple of Jupiter was the most prominent temple in the forum. • Political speeches took place here at election time. • A tribunal is a speaking platform in the forum. • Meat, Fish and Vegetable shops could be found in the covered market (Macellum)

Page 20 • The Temple of Isis is different because she is an Egyptian goddess. • Apollo is associated with medicine, music and prophecy. • Venus is the goddess of love and beauty. • Eumachia sponsored the Meeting Hall of the Cloth Merchants. • Eumachia is special because she is a business woman.

  9. Page 20 • The cloth merchants were special because theirs was the most prominent industry in Pompeii. • The municipal offices included the treasury, the record office, and the town council meeting room. • A basilica is a courthouse. • The two senior officials were called the duoviri.
