13. Hector When I got that award in your class, that Michie award that you put in plastic and everything. That was cool because it made me feel like I was doing something good.

14. Armando Last year, I had a good teacher. It was interesting in there. We did projects and made posters for books we read.

15. Nancy When Sandra Cisneros came to Quincy, I was shocked. It was kind of like a hero story for me when she came. I never heard stories like hers on T.V. Colloquia 15
16. Lourdes As far as school goes, Ive never liked history or social studies I just think it is another example of the white mans thinking about what went on, from their point of view.

17. Paloma The most important thing I learned in Media Studies is that I have a voice in society, that just because we are kids doesnt mean we shouldnt have a voice.
Michie gave them a voice. Dewey Schools should mirror society.

18. RUBY Some teachers dont explain the material in a way we can understand. Kids in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, they like school because the teachers play with them. The teachers actually sit down with them and explain things to them.
Michie had high one-on-one instructional time with his students. Incresed comprehension levels 18
19. Juan To me a good teacher is someone who understands the student, if the teacher knows how the students are thinking, you can teach a class more easily. If you see the kids are dead, common sense will tell you you better change your strategy, you know?
Michie used Teaching and Learning Styles, Engagement, Differntiated Instruction to keep interest levels high. 19
20. Reggie I just cant keep my attention in class sometimes. And my teachers know I have this problem. It was like she knew what problems I was having, and she asked the question on purpose, trying to make me look stupid.
Michie Approached his students in the exact opposite: he used compassion and more thought provoking questions-not right or wrong questions 20
21. Yesenia Teachers should be encouraging students, telling them, You have this gift. Youre very good at this. Then kids might see school in a different way.
Michie, above all, showed he cared for the welfare of the student. He used confidence building strategies to do so. 21
