  2. What is Mimicry? • When a species mimics another species through: - Sound - Appearance - Colour - Actions • The species mimicking another species is the mimic and the species that is being mimicked is the model

  3. Definitions you must know… • If an animal is venomous or poisonous then for sure it can harm you, but these two words have different meanings: - Venomous: The animal only harms you if the venom touches your blood - Poisonous: It harms only when you eat the animal

  4. There are many different types of mimicry but listed below are some of the types: The Viceroy Butterfly mimics the Monarch Butterfly through the colours of their wings (black and orange) The Viceroy butterfly is poisonous if eaten so the Monarch butterfly takes advantage of this Batesian Mimicry • The Deadly coral snake and the harmless milk snake benefit from the mildly harmful scarlet king snake because if a predator eats the mildly harmful snake, then it will remember that all snakes with similar patterns to the mildly harmful snake, should not be eaten. Mertensian Mimicry • When a species mimics another species in order to catch prey. The alligator snapping turtle mimics a pink worm in its mouth in to catch animals attracted to worms. The “dupe” is the one being tricked as being prey. Pekhamian Mimicry
