Steps to taking notes • Skim the material to find information on your topic • Carefully read one paragraph • Ask yourself to retell the information that was in that paragraph in your own words • Pick the main ideas and re-write it in “cave-man language” *Note – “cave-man language” = simplistic language written in bullet points rather than sentences

  3. Research Notes Let’s practice taking notes… • Open America to page 66 – “England Seeks Colonies” • Write this information on card #1 of your note-taking practice sheet: • Politics: Describe how the colony was founded • Source 1 • Your Initials(on bottom line)

  4. Practice Reading and writing notes • Read the “England Seeks Colonies” paragraphs • Tell your partner what the main ideas were- while taking turns • Now we will create bullet point notes (about three) in “cave man language” • Politics: Describe how the colony was founded • Source 1 • Your Initials(on bottom line)
