  3. What Works • Start at the start • Have enough leadership in the room to make commitments • Be willing to discuss everything • Never trade on a principle • Respect the principles of others

  4. Things to remember • Security is only as strong as its weakest link • You are dealing with the best of people at their worst and the worst of people at their best • Many court security improvements are cost-free or inexpensive

  5. Policies and Procedures • Perimeter screening • Judge and staff screening • Firearms in the courthouse • Key card access and key control • After hours building access

  6. Information Dissemination • Broad based plan • Delivered before implementation or before policies are changed • Allow for formal comment
