CEIR Research Committee Key Discussion Points • If the Center is to grow membership and become a visible and effective advocate, we will be expected to be THE energy and environmental experts in all areas of sustainable roofing • It is difficult to evaluate and prioritize proposed research without understanding the overall state of sustainable roofing knowledge • Our current resources are limited, and these resources are frequently subject to other commitments • Other committees will be necessary to advance and leverage our research efforts Meeting Notes: San Diego, 10/12/08
CEIR Research Committee Key Decisions • Re-work the committee mission statement to focus on the need for a comprehensive and continuously improving knowledge base to drive an ongoing research program • Establish the development of a comprehensive knowledge base as the top priority of the committee • Develop the knowledge base in a way that it can leverage resources beyond the Research Committee Meeting Notes: San Diego, 10/12/08

Sustainable Roofing Data Base Data Base Strategy • Identify the key topics to attract our targeted audience1 • Develop useful content to keep this audience coming back • Develop a consistent format to accelerate data base development and make changes / additions easy • Start with the most important topics first, and then work through the list as resources permit 1Our targeted audiences is very broad, and will include building owners and managers, building designers and consultants, roofing contractors and manufacturers, governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as general consumers. CEIR Research Committee Revised Mission Statement In supporting CEIR's strategies of membership growth, visibility, and advocacy, the CEIR Research Committee's mission is to expand industry capabilities in sustainable roofing by building a useful and continuously improving knowledge base for a broad range of constituents on sustainable roofing with compelling deliverables. The Research Committee will accomplish this mission by (1) identifying and consolidating existing research/information (2) identifying the gaps in the knowledge base and (3) directing actions to fill those identified gaps. In order to identify gaps in the knowledge base and direct actions to fill those gaps, the Research Committee should pursue:1. Identifying research projects critical to the success of sustainable roofing 2. Determining the resources necessary to conduct the research 3. Prioritizing the research for action by the Center Board 4. Assisting in the identification of research funding 5. Providing oversight of committed research projects 6.
