  9. How to manage content in Oracle iLearning platform • DESIGN AND ASSEMBLE CONTENT --------> Create or Reuse Content Object (RCO) : Brick • DELIVER CONTENT -----> To made content available to learners by creating an Offer

  10. 1. Content Object • A content object represents a piece of Web-playable course material that may be reused. • Because it can be reused, it is also known as a reusable content object or RCO. A content object must belong to one content folder but can be reused under different content folders.

  11. How to create a Content object • Manually (---> Hands On) • Importing • Copying • Regardless of how you create a content object, there is certain information that is required : METADATA (description, objectives, audience, …) • Some required information is automatically filled in by the system when you create a content object. Other information must be filled in by you, including the starting URL (html, pdf, … ).

  12. SUPPREM Design Content Hierarchy in Oracle iLearning platform Folder DEA Gestion (1484) Course Techniques de modélisation (1486) Brick 1 : From Data to Information... Brick Lecture 1 Lecture 2 Lecture Lecture 3 Lecture 4 Textbook1 Exercice 1 Sessions Solution to exercise 1 Further readings Test Quizz 1 Quizz Brick 2 (1492) B

  13. Assembling Content Create new object: New Folder, New Content, New Test Reuse existing object: Add by Copy, Add by Reference Steps: Select object in content tree to be the parent (Folder or RCO) Click command icon above content tree New Folder - enter name New Content - enter name, edit properties New Test - enter name, edit properties, add test items from bank Add by Copy - select existing RCO from window, edit properties Add by Reference - select existing RCO from window Note: You can only copy Test objects (not reference)

  14. Reference RCO: ABC (s:1234) Pointer to source Properties not editable One maintainable source To Add by Copy or Add by Reference? …that is the question! Source RCO: ABC Copy RCO: ABC (copy) Separate object Properties editable Shortcut for duplication Multiple maintainable RCOs B

  15. Catalog and search for reusable content objects (RCOs) in a centralized repository • Assemble content from multiple authoring tools • Author and assemble test items for assessments, Import/export content conforming to IMS & SCORM specifications What are the roles of a Content Assembler AssembleContent

  16. Preparing your Content for Publishing • The following options are available at the content object level: • Manage Reference Materials • Reference materials are Web-playable material located on a server. You include reference material as part of an offering by associating it with a content object and specifying its URL. • Manage Prerequisites • A prerequisite is a task a learner must fulfill before beginning or continuing a sequence of learning. Like other content objects, prerequisites represent Web-playable material located on a server • Manage Categories • Content Categories allow learners to use the Browse Catalog to find relevant offerings. The Browse Catalog feature is available from the Catalog tab on the learner's Home page.

  17. Publishing • You can publish (and unpublish) content objects as an optional part of the process of assembling content. When you publish a content object, you are visually indicating that the content is available to be offered by other users, such as professors, but it is not yet available to the learners. • Published content objects are indicated by normal font in the Content Tree. • If you select a high-level content object to publish, all content objects contained within the object are automatically published as well.

  18. 2. Create an Offering • An offering is content that can be made available to learners. Offerings are associated with a folder or an individual content object.

  19. The different types of offerings • Offering • Self-Paced • eStudy • eClass • eSeminar • Offline • Scheduled • inClass • eClass • eSeminar Course RCO Define Enrollment and Publish RCO Brick Test Topic Collaboration Forums Chats

  22. Associate content and collaboration resources to scheduled and self-paced offerings • Define Player settings for offerings • Schedule and ‘expire’ offerings • Target offerings to specific learner populations • Deliver blended/integrated learningofferings Oracle iLearning Featuresfor delivering Offers DeliverContent

  23. 3. Create Collaboration Tools • Collaboration allows learners to leverage the knowledge base of the whole community by interacting with other learners and instructors to exchange questions, answers, thoughts, and issues of concern as they learn. Collaboration can be associated with offerings to enrich the learning experience. Three types of collaboration are provided: • Forums • Chats • Email (one to one) • Announcements

  24. Two types of Forums and Chats • Contextual Forums and Chats, linked to Offering • Dependent on Enrollment Conditions for Offering • Offering: Presentation Skills Workshop • Chat: Q&A Session prior to group presentation • Forum: Feedback from my first presentation after the class • Open Forums and Chats • Subject to specific Enrollment Conditions (or inherit from folder) Open Forum: Management Issues during HQ Relocation

  25. Manage Announcements 3 types of announcements are provided • Site announcements : Site announcements are used to communicate important or timely information across your site. • Offering announcements : Offering announcements are used to communicate important or timely information on the offeringto learners.
