ASAP SeminarNovember 16, 2013YMCA By: Melody Pendleton, TyresaJohnson, & Emily Guilliams
Social Issue: • Abduction and Sexual Assault • While men do suffer a risk of being abducted or sexually assaulted, females in general are more at risk of: • Abusive relationships • Rape/Sexual Assault • Abduction • By giving participants knowledge and skills of defensive tactics and to be more aware of their surroundings
Purpose: • To give participants knowledge and awareness of abduction and sexual assault • To help bring awareness to situations that could potentially lead to an abduction or sexual assault • To provide knowledge of “safe zones” on campus • USE ELEVATORS • Police Phone Boxes (3 on campus)
Roles/Planning: • Emily – contacted Jeff Letchford, ASAP coordinator, through e-mail • Tyresa – contacted Chris Rill in order to gain access to the YMCA classroom, through e-mail and in person • Melody – Prepared flyers and participation waiver
Goal Achievement: • The goal was partially achieved, based on the two participants. They received the knowledge that was intended. • The seminar itself worked well, Jeff answered immediately and was very easy to work with and reliable. • Contact between Chris and ourselves which in turn hindered our turnout rate. • What we would do differently: • Find a different place to hold the event.
Vision/Mission Statement: • To provide the skills and knowledge to defend oneself against the risk of abduction and sexual assault without succumbing to vulnerability.
