What funds our Rotary programs? Funding of Rotary programs comes from Foundation funds. First we have to define: District Designated Fund - DDF DDF are contributions returned to our district from Rotary International after 3 years and managed by the District Governor Anthony and District Foundation Chairperson Ken. • In our district the DDF finances: • District Grants (up to 50% of DDF) • Remainder used for Global Grants, district programs and as required emergency relief funding, education, floods, fires, etc.
Individual funds of Our Rotary Foundation The Annual (share) Fund: Contributions invested for 3 years. 50% of funds are returned to us as DDF. The Polio Plus Fund. Contributions immediately directed to Polio eradication programs. Endowment Fund. Contributions are invested in perpetuity. Other Funds. Includes Grant funds where funds are directed to specific approved programs as well as Peace Scholars, Royce Abbey Award, etc.

Poliomyelitis (polio) is a crippling and potentially fatal disease that still threatens children in parts of the world. The poliovirus invades the nervous system and can cause total paralysis in a matter of hours. It can strike at any age but mainly affects children under five. Rotary has immunized more than 2 billion children while investing countless volunteer hours and more than US $2 billion.

Polio eradication update Polio symptoms that can occur from mutations in the vaccinated community; cVDPV cases. 2018: 109 reported from various locations where mass vaccinations had occurred where is a lack of herd immunity. Changes in vaccine type should reduce this occurrence. 2019: so far as of Feb 8th, zero reported cases. Since 2000, more than 10 billion doses of OPV have been administered to nearly 3 billion children worldwide. As a result, more than 13 million cases of polio have been prevented, and the disease has been reduced by more than 99%. During that time, cVDPV outbreaks occurred in 21 countries, resulting in fewer than 760 cases. https://www.who.int/features/qa/64/en/
Rotary Foundation & PHF History At the 1917 convention, outgoing RI President Arch C. Klumph proposed to set up an endowment fund. In 1928, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation. • The Paul Harris Fellowship – PHF • PHF recognition started in 1957 as fund raiser. • Is the recognition of a contribution of US$1000 to the Rotary Foundation in the name of an individual. • Up to 1963 only Rotarians could only obtain a PHF by purchasing the recognition. • In 1964 the PHF was amended to allow PHF to be purchased in another's name.
What about ME…. How do I help our Rotary Charity, the Rotary Foundation as an individual or as Rotarian? How to help ‘Do good in the world?’
How do I contribute to our foundation? • Make individual contribution to Annual or Polio Fund • Become a Centurion. • Become a Sustaining Member • Become a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) or multiple PHF • Join the Paul Harris Society • Become a Benefactor. Make provision in your estate to give to our Foundation. • All contributions of $2 or more to The Australian Rotary Foundation Trust are Tax Deductable in Australia.
How do I contribute to our foundation? Contribution using Social Media and third party collection agencies are still a bit of a shot in the dark. We assume funds to get to RI some time later. There can be issues with tax deductibility in AU as funds go direct to RI, not necessary via Australian Trust. Some receipts state they are not a tax receipt. You contribution not linked to your Rotary ID so contributions may not accrue PHF recognition points. No way for RI or Parramatta to track your contribution or to fix any records including tax receipt.
Things I am asked about? Are D9780 Rotarians sent a reminder for Centurion, Sustaining, or PHS contributions? Yes, every Rotarian will receive a contribution reminder via their club Foundation person or secretary. PHS reminders come from Parramatta. Can Rotarians use EFT for contributions to Foundation? Parramatta prefer contributions via Cheque, Credit Card or Direct Debit. • Why send contributions via district fundraising chair? • Centurion program is managed by District, not Parramatta. • To verify contribution has documentation work and information. How do I get my RF contribution receipt after I contribute? Receipts are posted or emailed using your contact details in the RI data base. Where do I send contributions or get forms for contributions? Mailing details are on all the various contribution forms that are down loadable from the D9780 Website.
Interesting observations in Rotary AU/NZ? The PHF is not an award for Rotarians or other individuals. The PHF is the recognition of a contribution of USD1000 to TRF in the name of an individual. Unfortunately previous use as an award stifles individuals in some clubs from contributing to our Rotary Foundation directly. • Rotary / Rotarian Awards are: • Avenues of Service Award, • Club Builder Award • Foundation Distinguished Service Award • Service Above Self Award • https://www.rotary.org/myrotary/en/learning-reference/learn-topic/awards Many Rotarians who have been presented a PHF by their club do not directly contribute to the Rotary Foundation afterwards.
How does club or individual contribute? Collect $2 or 2.50 / week via meal fee and then forward with form to District Fund Raising Chair before end of club year. Contribute USD1000 and become a PHF or multiple PHF Rotarian. Become a PHS member. Run event for The Rotary Foundation and get media involved. Contribution forms are down loadable from the district web site: http://www.rotary9780.org/SitePage/rotary-foundation Please send contributions by mid June to District Fundraising so are accrued in the current club year.
Key Points to take away: Clubs please set Annual and Polio contribution goal for club year. It helps with district budgeting and is non binding. PHF IS NOT AN AWARD, only the recognition of a contribution to our Foundation. Ensure all members details are correct in district web site data base, details will ripple through to RI. Be wary of using social media and / or third party collectors if require AU tax receipt or PHF recognition points. Cannot be fixed later… Please consider sending Centurion contributions in Foundation Month (November) and other contributions to district chair PP Val McGlashan by mid June to ensure they are accrued in the current club year.
Where is your Rotary ‘details’ located? • Unfortunately all not in one place…! • There are three main locations: • District member data base in Club Runner ‘Member Profile’. • Rotary International web site in ‘My Rotary’ • RDU data base. • The above locations are not all synchronised!
IMPORTANT Rotarian details entered into District Member page is the primary location for District 9780 Rotarians. How do I check my details or how does a club update Rotarian, club or office bearer details, etc? i.e. adding your club Rotary Foundation person.
Question for you. Who is district 9780 District Foundation Fund Raising Chair? PP Val McGlashan. Rotary Club of Naracoorte: SA
Google Chrome works from my experience seamlessly for all the sites. District 9780 has a club and member database is in club runner; http://rotary9780.org/Club office bearers, Rotarian and other honorary members details are kept here as well. Exceptions to above::: Other than Rotary Club of Mortlake Inc. who has turned off this option in D9780 clubrunner, or if individual Rotarian Family Name and / or RI ID Number are not identical in both databases.
Yes, where do you find D9780 contribution forms? http://foundationgiving.rotary9780.org/ http://foundationgiving.rotary9780.org/
