1 Patient sees GP Hilda sees her GP with shortness of breath and worsening chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Her GP, Dr Allenby, feels that all practice-based treatments have been exhausted and now needs specialist input into Hilda’s care. Enhanced Patient Communication
2 GP refers patient for test Hilda wants to be seen locally. Dr Allenby types “COPD” into the NHS e-Referral Service and is prompted that the local services require breathing tests. He therefore fills in the appropriate electronic referral template. Enhanced Patient Communication

She follows the instructions and downloads the NHS e-Referral Service app, which she is then able to use to book her appointment and receive the confirmation. Enhanced Patient Communication
