  6. Own subject … Positive: • Great opportunity to follow your own (research) interest Negative: • Thesis is not organized within the context of an actual USE research program • Is it doable? Is there an expert professor to supervise you? Etc… Therefore: contact your programme/track coördinator

  7. External research… Positive: • Thesis is organized within the context of a company or organization with a specific research question • Good opportunity to gather some work experience Negative: • Might be difficult to finish on time • Remark: the thesis requirements apply!

Subject provided by USE … • We make sure that there is enough diversity • We make sure that there is enough capacity Positive: • Thesis is organized within the context of an actual USE research program. • The subjects are ‘doable’. Negative: • Less opportunities to follow your own (research) interest

Examples of topics to be covered • Incentives and firm performance • Effectiveness of the (proposed) reforms in banking supervision in the EU • The role of status in the world of legal business • Which room for maneuver is there for public debt? • Dynamic decision model for recycling businesses • Issues of modern self-employment and entrepreneurship • What level of fine on the Dutch beer cartel is effective? • Etc.

International Master Thesis Project 2013USE – Indiana University at Bloomington • Pre-structured Master Thesis Project • Visit Washington DC (2 weeks, May) • Research Colloquium “Global Entrepreneurship and Development Index”; European Regionalversion: REDI • Field trip(s) • Institute of Development Strategies – Indiana University (4 weeks, May-June) • 2 x Research Colloquium, 2 x Workshop • Final week at USE: Transatlantic Student Conference “Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development” • USE faculty: Dr Niels Bosma, Dr Mark Sanders, Prof Dr Erik Stam • 6 week field trip to the US: €3000 additional costs for travel and housing • Valuable experience!
