  3. Functions of the lungs 1. Ventilation-BREATHING: Moving air in and out of the lungs Gas Exchange-Occurs between the air and blood in the lungs AND the blood and other tissues in the body Oxygen utilization-Oxygen used by the tissue in the lungs causes reactions of cells (distribution) during respiration

  4. Two Types of Respiration Describe each: Internal Respiration- External Respiration- Ventilation and exchange of gases between air and between air and blood Gas exchange between the blood and other tissues and oxygen utilization

  5. What is your trachea?Where is it located?

  6. Air pollution Define air pollution Harmful materials in the air that can cause inflammation of the upper and lower respiratory tracts, eyes and other parts of the body Give 3 examples of air pollution Auto exhaust, factory smoke, chemicals from SPRAY CANS, tobacco smoke How does air pollution affect your respiratory system? Destroying cilia damaging bronchial airways allowing irritants and disease –causing organisms to remain in the passageway allowing respiratory diseases to occur or worsen.

  7. Cilia Cilia are very fine hairs located in your nose. What do you think they are there to do? They sift bacteria and dust in the nose

  8. Explain please What is the difference between the larynx and pharynx?

  9. It i snot!! WHY does your body produce mucus? Mucous secretions help trap bacteria and dust, as well as moisten and warm the air being inhaled through the nasal cavity.
