  2. How much do you know about current authors? • In this presentation we will focus on three authors who are very famous and currently writing. • They are names you may have heard but do not know much about. They are: J.K. Rowling Stephen King Dean Koontz

  3. J.K. Rowling Look for this question later on the quiz: What is this famous author’s real name? • Born 1965 in Britain • Real name: Joanne Murray Rowling • Famous for writing the Harry Potter books • Named runner up by Time Magazine for 2007 Person of the Year award • Each of the last four Harry Potter books has set a new record of “fastest selling book in history” • The series is worth $15 billion, and Rowling herself was named by Forbes Magazine as the 136th richest person and 13th richest woman in Britain

  4. Stephen King Look for this question later on the quiz: How many movies have been made based on Stephen King’s books? • Born 1947, spent most of his life in Maine • Has written over 200 stories • Has written over 50 “best-sellers” • Over 50 of his works were made into popular movies.

Dean Koontz Look for this question later on the quiz: Which author has used the most pseudonyms? • Born 1945 in Pennsylvania • 14 of his books have reached #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List • Has used over10 different pseudonyms, the most of these 3 novelists. • Being a dog enthusiast, he has even written under his dog’s name Trixie.

Fun Facts • All three authors have written a series. • All three authors are fiction writers. • Fiction is “made up” or created by the author, as opposed to non-fiction which is historical and/or factual. • Rowling is unique from the other two authors because she is a woman, is British, and although she has written the fewest books of the three, she is the richest. • A “pseudonym” is a pen-name, or another name that the author writes under.
