  2. Birth/Childhood • Born on December 23,1867. • Born in a cabin in Louisiana. • Grew up with four older siblings , Louvenia , Alexander, James, and Owen Jr. • Named Sarah Breedlove at birth. • First baby born out of slavery. • She was an orphan at seven-years-old.

  3. Family • Madam only had her brothers and sisters left of family. • Madam moved in with Louvenia. • She did not like Louvenia’s husband. • She ended up getting married at the age of fourteen. • She got married to Moses McWilliams • Madam was a widow at the age of twenty with a three-year-old daughter , Lelia. • She sent Lelia to college and several years later got married to Charles C.J. Walker on January 4,1906.

  4. How She Became Famous • In 1889 she moved to St. Louis, Missouri. • Then she started making hair care products. • She started because when she woke up she would find hair on her pillow. • One night she started to mix things up and put it on her hair. • She started a door-to-door buisness. • She decided to build a Lelia college and after the women got out of college they were called culturists.

  5. Accomplishments/Honors • She had many accomplishments. • She had moisturizer to things that straighten your hair. • She even went into kitchens and did ladies hair. • There is a Madam Walker Theatre in Indianapolis, Indiana.

  6. Death Day • Madam Walker died on May 25,1919. • She died because of high blood pressure and illness. • She died at the age of 52.
