Setting up the Running Head For Microsoft Word 2010 as Viewed on a PC
On Your First Page • On the first page of your document, insert a header using the insert tab. Under header, select “Blank.”
Different First Page • Click the box that says “Different First Page.”
Insert Page Number • You can insert your page number from the design tab, the same tab you are currently under. Select “Top of Page” and “Plain Number 3.”
Type the Header • Click around on the left side of the header until you get a blinking line. Then, type “Running head:” and the title of your paper in all caps.
Change the Font • Word 2010’s default font is Calibri 11pt. Unless you have reset your default font, you will need to highlight your header and change the font to Times New Roman 12pt, then do the same for the page number.
The Second Page • On the second page, you must insert another page number and type in a new header. This header will carry over to all your other pages. • For the second page, your header will be just the title of your paper in all caps. • Don’t forget to change the font for the text and page number of the second page header.
You’re Done! Exit the header section and type your paper!
