W/Z Planning - 2010 • Monte Carlo samples 7 TeV – W, Z, top, QCD, EW (tau+DY) .. [ Ping and Wayne State ] • Trigger – L1 and HLT. Good runs. Lumi segments. HLT -> PD set. [ Tata, Fan ] • Data processing and samples – PD, SD and W/Z EW skim, [Efe – 2009 data ] • First data samples – skim muon candidates – QCD isolation study,…. Follow T&P for psi and upsilon. [Ping and Fan, PKU on psi polariz ] • We are interested in data processing/reducing in this context. There probably is a similar effort within the EW group. We must coordinate with them. I suppose TTU can do that. Our ultimate focus is Z asymmetry. • Muon reco – using Z T&P tools for eff, charge mis-id etc. [ Pooja ] • MET reco – evaluate different algos in data (jets ?). MET in Z events? Remove 1 muon ? [ Tata ]
W/Z planning - II • QCD bkgnd [ Pooja ] • First data look at – some soft muons from b pairs and decays in flight. • Isolation variables – which to choose • Tools – template and ABCD, crosscheck • Systematics • EWK bkgnd [ Rochester ] • Monte Carlo for tau and DY – several MC to evaluate systematics • Data driven? In DY shrink |y| coverage and extrapolate – systematics. Check on U. Minn use of HF in ee
W/Z Planning - III • PDF [ Lenny , Tata] • Establish 2 or more PDF, CTEQ, MRS … • Establish the “errors” on a given PDF set – e.g. the 40 CTEQ sets. • Check the tools supplied by the EW group – e.g. PDF systematics. (Renata) • Monte Carlo [ Ping, Tata , Roch ] • For W and Z aysm we need to use MC to compare to the data • RESBOS + FEWZ ? – NLO, NNLO • Draft papers – doing this exercise will indicate all the steps that need to be covered. Start with CDF/D0 as templates. [ Lenny – W, Arie – Z asym]
W/Z Planning - IV • Make sure to speak at EW mu meetings • Submit the draft papers to EW mu group • Write up the AFB note in full detail [ Rochester + Renata] • Closure for 2-> 2 no ISR or FSR ( done – Dec. 2009 ) • Cuts to limit ISR (jet veto) and FSR ( Z Pt and gamma veto) • Unfolding for FSR and mass resolution • Final residual Monte Carlo correction – sets systematic errors, driven by PDF.
W/Z Planning - V • Do W asym and AFB all together – sets base of SM rediscovery expertise. • Then branch out into W CI [FNAL – Fan, Ting. Lenny], DY CI [FNAL, Wayne State] and Z’ in AFB [Roch, CBPF, FNAL] • Groups should sign onto both common tasks and specific tasks • Rutgers [ e W asym, 1 PD ?] • FNAL [ 3 FNAL PD + 2 Guest PD - W, Z asym] • Rochester [ 2 PD ] • TATA [ 1 GS ] • Wayne State [ 1 PD, 1 GS ] • Purdue ? Is there a follow on after psi/upsilon ? • Texas Tech [ 1 PD + 1 GS + with time additional manpower] • Beijing ? PKU? [ 1 Guest GS ]
