The Friar • Friars were people who devoted their lives to helping others out. • They were poor as they took a vow of poverty when they began.
Duties of a Friar • Friars typically had three duties to perform: • 1. Live among the Poor • 2.Collecting charity on behalf of the poor • 3.serving those less fortunate
To Live Among The Poor • Friars take an initial vow to the life of poverty • They are expected to live in churches or monasteries • Friars would preach the word of their god to the poor • In addition to preaching they would also provide education.
Collecting Charity • Friars were known beggars as they had to beg to receive money in which they donate to the poor • they begged for money and other common necessities
Serving The Poor • Friars made sure that they gave back in return to the poor people in their area • Whether its food or clothing they tried to help out as best as they could
Friar Life • Friars wore brown robe like outfits most commonly • Friars rarely travelled and were based out of the local monasteries or churches • They vowed to poverty so they really didn’t have anything rather lavish.
