4. Traits of the Friar • He is always ready to befriend young women • He administers sacraments especially those of marriage and confession for his own gain • Accepts bribes for his service

5. Traits continued • His voice was gay and sturdy • He sung well and could play the Hurdy Gurdy • He kept knives and pins in his hood for any women he passed • Also a drinker

6. Dealt with scum • He was courteous to anyone who could give him a profit • Neglects his spiritual duty

7. Physical Characteristics • Wore a cape • Really white neck that is very strong • “His neck was whiter than a lily flower but strong enough to but a bruiser down”(Chaucer 242 243). • His social class was clergy

8. Sin or Morale Value • Greed • The value is greed because he took advantage of his capabilities of a religious figure and charging a fee. • As a religious figure he should be kind and helpful to all no matter who they are and he should not be courting young women that is what Chaucer was mainly criticizing
