(Wonderful Ones, Most Intelligent Ones, Sweet Little Love Doves) • 3 times an hour brag on them (You are always on time, You have the neatest handwriting, You have perfect spelling) • 1 time an hour (with love) show them that you never accept excuses (I love you, but this paper does not demonstrate your full potential-redo it.)

The 12 Most Powerful Words • Use the words everyday orally-have the students use them as well • Display the words-posters, interactive word wall, picture words • Have students formulate their own definitions • Practice everyday-6 minutes • Integrate them across the curriculum • Play games-Muscle Memory, I Have Who Has • Sing Songs

  13. THE FABULOUS FIVE • Say the words correctly on demand • Spell the words correctly on demand • Define the words correctly on demand • Make a sentence with the words correctly on demand • Create a question with the words correctly on demand Students need to be able to do this by Dec. 15th

  14. BY DECEMBER 16TH Grade levels need to come up with an additional twelve words that trip students up on the EOG. Students need to be able to perform the Fabulous Five with these additional words by March 15th. • Synthesize • Interpret • Determine

UNRAAVEL • Underline the title. • Now predict what you think the story is about. • Run through and number the paragraphs. • Are you reading the questions? • Are the important words circled? • Venture through the passage. • Eliminate the silly answer (Mark it out). • Let the questions be answered. Write the paragraph # and line # next to the questions where you found the answers.

UNRAVVEL Draw a line, under the title Take your best guess what it’s all about Put a number next to each paragraph To help you find the answer Take some time, and read the questions Circle all, the very important words Write down what each word means And now it’s time to read Chorus Unraaveling Unraaveling This is how we unraavel the 12 words Cross out all the wrong answers Pick the best of all that remain Paragraph numbers will prove you know the answers Now double check your work Chorus

Proof-for the “At Promise” Jesse Najera, Adelanto Elem., Adelanto, CA Jesse Najera is a first year principal who was able to freeze the school in program improvement after four straight years of decline. In CA, a growth of 10 API points is considered good. Adelanto’s African American students’ scores increased 54 API points,Hispanic students increased 92 API points,Low Socio-Economic increased 84 API points, English Learners increased 100 API points. There was a school wide increase of 87 API points. Adelanto ES is a Title I school with the following demographics: 100%free/reduced lunch, 70% Hispanic/Latino, 60%ELL, 20% African American. In addition there are 4 prisons in the area and many of Adelanto’s students moved here to be close to relatives in prison.

  23. More Proof-for the “At Promise” Deirdre Holloway, Blue Ridge Elem. Fort Bend, TX As a first year principal of Blue Ridge ES, Deirdre Holloway guided her school from the lowest in the district to making incredible gains in one year. Reading and writing scores increased as much as 16 percentage points and math scores increased up to 30 percentage points. Blue Ridge ES is a Title I urban school with the following demographics: 78% free/reduced lunch, 76% African American, 23% Hispanic/Latino,10% ELL, 8% Special Education.

  24. They did it-We can too!! Suzanne Roberts, J. Colin English Elementary School, North Ft. Meyer, FL, 3rd Grade Math Suzanne Roberts’ entire class had been retained the previous year. She not only has a 100% pass rate in math but also an 83% pass rate in reading. J. Colin English Elementary School is a Title I school with the following demographics: 100% free/reduced lunch, 75% students of color.

  25. Last One-You get the point! Jean Lavergne, Tejeda Middle School, San Antonio, TX, 5th and 6th Grade Math Jean Lavergne was a 100%er in math for 7 consecutive years. She had 135+ students each year and her classes had special education inclusion. Tejeda Middle School has the following demographics: Predominantly Caucasian, 27% Latino, 5% African American.
