3. Definition • A form of aggressiverepetitivebehavior manifested by the use of force or coercion to affect others • It can include verbal harassment, physical assault or coercion and may be directed repeatedly towards particular victims, perhaps on grounds of race, religion, gender, sexuality, or ability. • The victim of bullying is sometimes referred to as a "target".

4. Cyber Bullying • "the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others.” • purpose is to intentionally embarrass others, harass, intimidate, or make threats online to one another. This bullying occurs via email, text messaging, posts to blogs, and Web sites.

5. In School • Bullying can occur in nearly any part in or around the school building, though it may occur more frequently in physical education classes and activities, recess, hallways, bathrooms, on school buses and while waiting for buses, and in classes that require group work and/or after school activities. • sometimes consists of a group of students taking advantage of or isolating one student in particular and gaining the loyalty of bystanders who want to avoid becoming the next victim. • These bullies may taunt and tease their target before physically bullying the target. Bystanders may participate or watch, sometimes out of fear of becoming the next victim.

8. In Canada • Gilles Moreau, an Edmonton, Alberta teen, who was found dead, face-down in a ditch. • 8 April 2002: Emmet Fralick, a 14-year-old pupil at St. Agnes School in Halifax, Nova Scotia, shot himself in his bedroom because he was being bullied by classmates. Emmet was regarded as a quiet boy with a reputation for kindness to others. • 20 October 2002: 15-year-old Greg Doucette was so tormented about his acne by bullies at Notre Dame Secondary School in the Heart Lake district of north Brampton, that he hanged himself in the basement of his home. • July 2004: the life of a boy, known only as Tom, changes dramatically after incidents of bullying; Later, Tom attempts to hang himself but survives, albeit with brain damage and requiring 24 hour care. Anchorage School District pays out $1 million as part of a $4.5 million settlement but denies liability.

9. Information • Kids report being mean to each other online beginning as young as 2nd grade. • According to research, boys initiate mean online activity earlier than girls do • by middle school, girls are more likely to engage in cyber bullying than boys do.
