  1. UNCTAD/UNECE WORKSHOP Strengthening National and Regional Trade Facilitation Organizations Geneva 31 October – 1 November Country’s experience: SWEDEN

  2. Type and structure of SWEPRO • Swedish Trade Procedures Council, created by government decision • 6 representatives from business and 3 from public sector appointed by the government • 3-years mandate • Secretariat hosted by National Board of Trade

  3. Mandate SWEPRO’s mandate, given by the Government, is ”to promote simplification and efficiency in international trade procedures through active participation in the central international forums where these matters are addressed”

  4. Purpose and objectives • The main purpose is to provide a formal platform for discussion and exchange of information. • The objectives are: • to ensure proper coordination • to participate in the international work • to identify key TF issues in Sweden and participate in policy consultations • to promote trade facilitation

  5. Main activities of SWEPRO’s Secretariat • Coordination and promotion • Analyses and recommendations • Participation in the international work • Technical assistance

  6. How do you determine your priorities? • By consensus • Business plan

  7. How is the organization financed? Secretariatbudget from National Board of Trade Council members each organization

  8. Main opportunities for facilitating trade in your country • TF high priority for Sweden • Change of mind set • From control to service • From transaction to system • Partnership and trust • International attention
