Day One
Businesses Perceptions of Today’s Teens “Today’s teens are more interested in FB, Twitter, and Instagram than talking with someone face to face.” “Today’s teens are lazy and irresponsible.” “Today’s teens lack the basic writing skills necessary to be effective in the work place.” “Today’s teens struggle to think for themselves and solve problems.” “Today’s teens cannot be counted on because they are either late or don’t show up.”
Class Discussion Think: Reflect on your own behavior in comparison to what businesses are saying about today’s teens. Are they right or wrong? Prove it. Pair: Chat with a partner about what businesses are saying about teen workers. Do you feel they are justified? Share: Share your thoughts and feelings with the class.
What is the solution? How can PHS students change the negative perceptions about today’s teens work habits? What are you going to do to change these perceptions? According to Forbes.com, there are several bad work habits that could get you fired. Read through the following slides. Take the social media quiz at the end.

Watch the Video Will Smith on Work Ethic Class Discussion: What work habits does Will Smith have that have made him so successful? Are these habits only attainable to movie stars, musicians, and professional athletes? How does someone obtain work habits like Will Smith?
Class Activity With a partner, fill out the star qualities handout. Identify the qualities or work habits needed to be successful. (FYI, you can define what success is.)
