  2. The Problem Stagnation: Immobility of water in a reservoir • Major environmental and health hazard • Mosquito breeding leads to malaria and dengue development • Often occurs in lesser developed countries

Technical Aspect • Stimulating water motion will eliminate stagnation while generating energy output to be utilized by the community • Pumped-hydro system moves water from stagnant reservoir to a lower reservoir • Water moves through turbine generating power • Siphon uses some energy to initiate movement back to higher reservoir • Excess energy stored or utilized

  4. Calculations Involved • Power required by siphon • Turbine output energy • Efficiency of system

  5. Long Term Goal • Applying engineering knowledge to improve under developed countries with water sustainability. • Preventing environmental hazards due to water stagnation • Providing a clean source of water • Simultaneously creating energy
