Efficient Assembly Procedure for FT5 and FT6 Prototype Straw Tube Wall

A proposal outlining the step-by-step procedure for assembling the FT5 and FT6 prototype straw tube wall. The method involves group assembly, handle attachment, and modular connections for easy maintenance without beam pipe removal.

  1. Proposal for the assembling procedureof FT5 and FT6Federico EvangelistiINFN - Ferrara

  2. In Ferrara we have realized a prototype for the straw tube wall’s assembling procedure. Waiting for the simulations to give us the final dimensions and positions of FT5 and FT6 we have used the current geometry. The prototype is composed of : groups main frame PANDA Meeting - Stockholm - 14/18 June 2010

  3. We have realized a group using the Crakow method. For simplicity we used only two 32ch modules (the number of groups is not important for the test of the assembly procedure). (Cracow method from J.Smyrski presentation GSI 8.12.08) (straw tube module) support frame (group) carriages PANDA Meeting - Stockholm - 14/18 June 2010

  4. After assembling the group, we put on it two handles, one double and one single. + + = (doublehandle) (single handle) (group) PANDA Meeting - Stockholm - 14/18 June 2010

  5. Real straw tube group carriage carriage top support frame double handle 32ch module 1200mm (FT5) single handle straw tubes 807mm bottom support frame carriage carriage mechanics realized by Stefano Squerzanti PANDA Meeting - Stockholm - 14/18 June 2010

  6. ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE STEP 1 Put the group on the mechanical support; PANDA Meeting - Stockholm - 14/18 June 2010

  7. ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE STEP 1 Put the group on the mechanical support; AREA COVERED BY OTHER PARTS OF THE EXPERIMENT We need 1mt clearance on each side for assembly operations of FT detector PANDA Meeting - Stockholm - 14/18 June 2010

  8. STEP 2 Remove the double handle from the group; PANDA Meeting - Stockholm - 14/18 June 2010

  9. STEP 3 Put the second group on the mechanical support like in step 1 and connect groups with two connection flanges; PANDA Meeting - Stockholm - 14/18 June 2010

  10. STEP 4 Remove the single handle and assemble it on the second group; PANDA Meeting - Stockholm - 14/18 June 2010

  11. STEP 5 Remove the double handle and slide the mounted groups. Repeat the preceding operations until completion of the half wall. PANDA Meeting - Stockholm - 14/18 June 2010

  12. CONCLUSIONS • THE PROPOSED ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE HAS THE FOLLOWING ADVANTAGES: • IT’S VERY EASY AND SAFE (to be checked the assembly procedure with gas tubes and signal wires); • THE MODULAR METHOD MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO MOUNT AND DISMOUNT STRAW TUBE GROUPS IN EVERY MOMENT; • MAINTENANCE DOES NOT REQUIRE TO REMOVE THE BEAM PIPE. PANDA Meeting - Stockholm - 14/18 June 2010
