Ways to Help the Environment Lesson 47. In the last few lessons we learned about three ecosystems. In each ecosystem we saw how the plants and animals all depend on each other. People can change the environment. They can help the ecosystems and they can hurt the ecosystems.

  2. In the last few lessons we learned about three ecosystems. In each ecosystem we saw how the plants and animals all depend on each other.

  3. People can change the environment. They can help the ecosystems and they can hurt the ecosystems.

  4. People change the environment. They build bridges and roads.

  5. People build houses and neighborhoods.

  6. People build factories.

  7. People build landfills. Landfills are a place people can put their trash.

  8. Sometimes people hurt the environment. People cause fires and oil spills.

  9. Everything people do can either hurt or help the living things found in many ecosystems.

  10. Our woodlands can be in danger if people cut too many trees. Many woodlands have be destroyed to build neighborhoods, stores and factories.

  11. Many woodlands have been destroyed by fire.

  12. Animals lose their habitat when land is cleared for building or destroyed by fires.

  13. People can help the woodlands by planting trees to create homes and food for the animals.

  14. Planting trees and plants also help people. We need oxygen. Plants give us oxygen.

  16. Many beaches have been made unclean for humans and animals because of oil spills or pollution.

  17. People can help the coastal ecosystems by cleaning up our beaches.

  18. People can protect the living things in an ecosystem.

  19. People can help the environment by recycling. When we reuse things we do not create as much trash.

  20. People can reuse paper, plastic containers, glass containers and metal containers.

  22. Littering is not healthy for living things. Trash and litter is bad for an ecosystem.

  23. We must also protect our environments by not wasting water.

  24. We must protect our environment from air pollution.
