  3. Education • Younge Street Elementary • Booker T. Washington • at age 15, entered Moorehouse College • skipped 9th and 12th grade due to high scores on entrance exams • Christian Minister from1954 until his death

  4. Freedom Fighter • 1955, joins the bus boycott • 1957, joins group to fight segregation • 1959, visited India to study nonviolence • 1960, lunch counter sit-in begins

  5. The Continued Fight • 1963, deliver his speech, I Have A Dream • Equal treatment for all • Brotherhood among all • Freedom and justice • People judged by character traits/not color • Children regardless of color walk hand in hand

  6. Death • shot while standing on the balcony of Lorraine Motel in Tennessee, 1968 • James Earl Ray pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 99 years in prison.
