1. ELA 9 SURVIVAL HANDBOOK ELA 9 CLASS PROJECT FOR
SURVIVING & CONQUERING UNIT
2. PROJECT Together you will create a survival handbook.
The handbook will provide practical grade 9 survival strategies.
You have almost conquered grade 9, therefore you are survival experts.
Your target audience is grade 8 students entering Carlton next fall.
3. Always be ready for the worst. Here are illustrated, step-by-step instructions on what you need to know now!
THIS PROJECT WAS CREATED AFTER READING
THE WORST CASE SCENERIO SURVIVAL HANDBOOK SERIES
BY JOSHUA PIVEN AND DAVID BORGENICHT.
4. HANDBOOK CONTENTS Table of contents

4. EDIT – have two classmates edit your page
5. REVISE - make changes and type (see format)
6. SHARE – send page to Mrs. Mercredi using gaggle.net (add bio to message – see format)
6. HOW TO SURVIVE WHEN LOST IN THE JUNGLE 1. FIND A RIVER.
Generally animal trails will lead you to water. Water is the key to jungle navigation and usually the quickest way to travel.
2.FASHION A MAKESHIFT RAFT.
See how to make a raft on page 23.
3. LET THE CURRENT CARRY YOU DOWN RIVER.
4. TRAVEL ON RIVERS ONLY DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS.
Alligators and crocodiles are night predators, so avoid travelling during the night.
5. WATCH CLOSELY FOR SIGNS OF VILLAGES.
Most communities are situated close to fresh water supplies.
7. HOW TO BUY LUNCH IN THE CAF 1. ESTABLISH YOUR PLAN
Decide where you might sit and who you want to sit with. Speaking with friends before lunch can help speed up the process.
2. REMOVE YOUR COAT AND BACKPACK
Students are not allowed to enter the serving area with jackets or backpacks. Leave them in your locker, with a friend or at the table beside the cash register before entering the serving area.
3. GO IN WITH A FIRST AND SECOND CHOICE LUNCH ORDER
If you arrive later there will be fewer choices. The daily lunch special for $3.50 is always a great choice. See food price list below.
