Leaders don’t create followers, they create more leaders.-Tom Peters
In our classroom, we celebrate leadership in all of its forms. • Being a good role model. • Being kind. • Being considerate. • Listening to others respectfully. • Being helpful. • Thinking about others. • Implementing the 7 Habits of Happy Kids.
We started out the year by reading The 7 Habits of Happy Kids and starting individual “Leadership Notebooks.” How it went…
Kids record their Test scores and Set goals for learning. Kids own their learning.
This is an example of a personal goal. Kids set goals for themselves and list reasons for their goal. They understand that they will need to take action and may need support. Kids set Wildly Important Goals.
Give students pride. Give students ownership. Help them to be in control of their learning. Give them purpose. Leadership Notebooks:
Students realize that they are in control of their learning and that the outcome is directly related to their efforts. • Confidence promotes Leadership.
Students use their Leadership Notebooks to have Parent/Student/Teacher conferences.
We use the 7 Habits to describe character traits of people in History. • When we study famous people in History, we go back to the 7 Habits and ask… • Were they Proactive? • Did they Put First Things First? • Did they Begin with the End in Mind? • Were they team players? Think Win-Win? • Did they work with other to achieve their goals? • How did they Sharpen their Saw?
We realize that great leaders in history DO apply these principles! It shows us that we have what it takes to be Leaders too!
Students wanted to say “Thank you” to service men and women who served us lunch at Thanksgiving. They made this sign on their own volition.
