The Taming of the Shrew1623. 10 Things I Hate About You1999. The men in this play are all chasing the girls. They are always trying to woo them and obtain permission from the fathers. The women all resist and think about nothing but choosing. The boys in thismovie come in two forms. They either care about the girls, or are just in it for one thing. The girls are either ditzy and vein, or quite the opposite. Bothstories areintended asentertainment forall the family. Each wooer craves abeautiful, worthy girl to wed/date. There is noone who “benefits” from these texts, they merely provide entertainment for the reader/viewer. The main male role succeeds in taming the main female role and she accepts him as her husband/boyfriend. The female characters in this movie all have their own opinions and make their own decisions. It shows that things aren’t the way they used to be, women can and are standing up for themselves. The idea of a female in this play seems to be nothing more than an object that they want and that the father chooses who to give it to. The girls don’t deny orgo against what they say, as if itis how it should be. The father in this rendition worries about the decisions his daughters will make, but can do no more than that. This movie shows viewers that women can be as weak or strong as they choose to be. They can choose to be an object for the boys, or they can choose not to be. But no matter how strong they appear, there is always a soft side. The role of the father, BaptistaMinola, is to choose a worthy candidate to woo each of his daughters. This play tells the reader that women are there to wait on men and nothing else. That they must do what their father or husband tell them to or they will be considered unfit to wed and called names such as “horrible” or “curst”. Every woman should be nothing more than a wench.

There was a time, a time before cable. When the local anchorman reigned supreme. When people believed everything they heard on TV. This was an age when only men were allowed to read the news. And in San Diego, one anchorman was more man then the rest. His name was Ron Burgundy. He was like a god walking amongst mere mortals. He had a voice that could make a wolverine purr and suits so fine they made Sinatra look like a hobo. In other words, Ron Burgundy was the balls.
1. This movie is set in the 1970’s and in the beginning, the news team consists of all males. Brian Fantana, Ron Burgundy, Champ Kind and Brick Tamland. 2. During a meeting, it is announced that the network is concerned for the lack of diversity in the news room. The hiring of Veronica Corningstone is followed by remarks such as “It is AnchorMAN, not AnchorLADY, and that is a scientific fact.” The conversation continues with such remarks and ends with them all drooling over Veronicas physical appearance. 3. Ron Burgundy takes Veronica out for the night and she asks what his dreams are. He tells her that his dream is to become an anchor and she replies with “Believe it or not, we share the same dream. My dream is also to, one day, become an anchor.” 4. Ron runs into some trouble with a man on the bridge whilst on his way to work one evening and he does not make it to the news room on time. Veronica offers to fill in for him but Ed refuses saying “There has never been a woman anchor before.” After this argument, Veronica tells him that she is going to do it, despite the mocking from the other members of the news team. 5. Upon finally arriving at the news room, Ron is informed that Veronica filled in for him. He is distraught and asks her how could she do such a thing to him? She remarks that he knew it was her dream, she told him. He claims he thought she was joking. “What? I thought you were joking. I wrote about it in my diary. ‘Veronica had a very funny joke today.’ I laughed about it later that night!” 6. Ron's next news report is sabotaged and Ed is forced to fire him. After he is gone, Veronica becomes the new anchor and is accepted by most. Although, a few are still prejudiced towards it. A rival news reporter approaches her and says “Hey, why don’t you go fetch me a sandwich.” She retaliates by saying “Sure, I’ll get you a sandwich, then I’ll show you the ratings where you’re number 2 to a woman, ouch.”
Research Task: Has society changed it’s views and representations over time or do we still sub-consciously assign traditional gender related roles. To ask if society has changed its views on gender, you have to assume that all members of society have the same views. Society is defined as a group of people organized for some common purpose, for this task, we’ll say that common purpose is living. 400 years ago, ‘society’ had the view that the men work while the women stay at home to cook, clean, wait and obey. It was generally known that the male gender was the dominant one. These days, people’s views on sexism and such topics are quite largely scattered. Some still believe the old views on the subject, whilst most have quite a different opinion, believing women can do anything a man can do. I wouldn’t say society as a whole has changed its views, but I do believe, compared to the views on people 400 years ago, the majority of people that make up today’s society have different beliefs and views on the matter, to one degree or another.
