  2. Why Study Anatomy ?? • Increase knowledge of the body systems and how it relates to salon services. • Improves performance for better services, with a understanding of muscles and bones. • Helps recognize changes from the norm.

  3. Five Tissues of the Body • Connective Tissue- provides protection, support and binds other tissues of the body together. • Epithelial Tissue- protects body surfaces. The top layer of skin is epidermis. Lining of the heart and respiratory organs are included.

  4. Cont. Tissues of the Body • Liquid Tissue- Hormones, blood, lymph and carries food and waste products through out the body. • Muscular Tissue – Moves and contracts body muscles. • Nerve Tissue- sends messages to and from the brain and controls body functions.

  5. Connective Tissue • Examples of connective tissues: • Bones • Cartilage • Tendons • Ligaments • Adipose (Fat tissue)

  6. Epithelial Tissues • Skin Layer (Surface) • Tissues are closely packed. • Flat cells • No blood vessels are present. • Replaces damaged cells.

  7. Liquid Tissues • Carries food and nourishments to the body by way of blood and lymph. • Hormones and waste products are also carried by liquid tissue.

  8. Muscular Tissue • Gives the body ability to contract and move. • Skeletal – (Voluntary Muscle) • Smooth - (Involuntary Muscle) • Cardiac - (Heart muscle)

  9. Nerve Tissue • Composed of neurons • Send and receives messages from the brain • Coordinates and controls all body functions

  10. Bones of the Lower Leg • Patella- Knee cap • Tibia- Larger of two bones below knee • Fibula-Smallest of two bones below knee • Tarsals-7 small bones of the foot, above metatarsals. • Phalanges-3 in each toe, two in the big toe
