The FCPS 2012 Extended Learning Time format, now known as ELT, integrates daily occurrences, tutoring, enrichment activities, and advisory periods to enhance student learning. The new structured framework allows for extra instructional time with a set class rotation pattern over a two-week period. Teachers can utilize this time for makeup work, small group activities, and content extensions, fostering student engagement and academic growth.

FCPS’ Revised Format for 2012 Extended Learning Time (ELT) Formerly known as Co-Curricular Period and Activity (CCP/CCA)
The New Format Provides • Every day occurrence • Includes an advisory period • Includes tutoring • Includes enrichment with the possibility of STEM activities • Definite structure • An accountability factor for students
ELT New Structure • Basically, ELT will allow all teachers to see their regular classes for extra mini-session. • In a nutshell, this will place an additional 30 instructional minutes daily – back into the week.
Mondays Through Fridays • On these days, teachers would receive back (during ELT) one of their normal classes. • This will be set up according to a pattern which will loop through a two-week time period. • The pattern will be based on periods • The Pattern: 1A – 3B – 5A – 7B – 2A – 4B – 6A – 8B then 1A Advisory for Special Lesson. Then: 1B – 3A – 5B – 7A – 2B – 4A – 6B – 8A then 1A Advisory for Special Lesson. • We will always try to build in at least a small time for ELT, even on special schedule days.
Points of Order • This is a two-week pattern that is NOT set by weekday • With this looping pattern, students will see each of their classes fairly regularly over a two-week time period. • A Day and B Day schedule runs normally. • A missed day (such as a snow day) simply bumps the pattern to the next school day. (This is the same way we handle A/B Day when we have a snow day. If Monday is supposed to be an A Day and school is cancelled, Tuesday becomes the A Day.)
What Occurs During This Time? • Tutor • Make up work • Small group work • Enrichment of your content area • Extensions of your content area • Learn study skills • Extra class time to complete assignments • Activities that you have not had time to do in a while. • Fun parts of the curriculum teachers do not have time to do in class anymore
What About Tutoring with other teachers? • During ELT time, other teachers may sign up students to come to make up work or for extra help as we did last year. • This will give you even MORE time to make up work or get extra assistance.
Advisory Period • The Advisory Period is your A Day-Period 1 Class • This class will remain the same all year. • This Period will occur occasionally throughout the year. • During this Period we will: • Complete PBIS or Olweus Lessons • Complete School Business, as needed
