  1. The Scientific Revolution To boldly go where no man has gone before How did new discoveries change the way people viewed the universe What IS the new scientific method and how it developed What were the contributions of the early scientists

  2. Scientific Thinking would force Man’s final break with the Middle Ages • “Thinkers” began to question the old views • People began to prove the old view was not “right.” contradict!! • Why was Copernicus seen as a radical?

  3. He questioned “old, accepted knowledge.” • Earth was not the center of the universe!!! • Which meant, people could question other things as well---including the church. • But in spite of efforts to stop the new thinkers…. • Others continued to question and prove…

  4. A new method of “working through things” developed. “How is truth determined” Rene Descartes in France; Francis Bacon in England • Bacon • Experimentation and Observation; • Better life through practical technologies • Descartes • Human reasoning. “Doubt it and figure it out!”
