Lightning and Earthing System Review Review and evaluation for lightning and earthing systems, is one of protection systems needed for facilities to mitigate probability of explosion and fire. Definition:
Objective: Activity may be executed to: Petroleum companies (Production/ Refinery/ Petrochemicals/ Storage and Handling/ Marketing and Distribution/ Factories dealing with chemicals and petrochemical products). To ensure that connection of lightning and earthing system to the site internal network is sufficient to mitigate the probability of fire/explosion.
Scope of Work: Reviewing documents and maps of the connections and readings of periodical tests. Site tour and reviewing earthing connections. Measuring of random samples by using characteristic apparatus. Preparing a report including comments and recommendations.
Definition: Hazard and Operability Study(HAZOP) Is a study to determine all hazards related to operations in process and resulting from excess/poor/no feed to process units. Objective: • To determine the hazards related to operations process and set protection systems to mitigate occurrence probability and its impacts.
Scope of Work: This study is executed for all existing/ new operating units. Also, for any vital modifications in the process/ equipments/ units. • Team work from all technical field to study operations in process through reviewing engineering drawings and PFD.

Definition: Qualitative/Quantitative Risk Assessment Studies “QRA” Is a study for determination of expected hazards which could arise from operations in process, and their consequences/ environmental impacts. The expected hazards may be fires, explosions, leak of flammable/ toxic gases.
Objective: Scope of Work: Recognizing the impacts of different expected hazards (fires/ gas leaks). Setting the precautions to mitigate the probability of occurrence. • Collecting data/ documents review & analysis, determining the expected hazards that may arise from operations in process.
Petroleum Companies (Production/ Refinery/ Petrochemicals/ Storage and Handling/ Marketing and Distribution). Activity may be executed to: Data insert into the software program to get flowcharts & modeling that show the fire/ leakage gases contours. Preparing the study including comments and recommendations to mitigate/ control impacts if expected hazards occurred. • The factories / companies (outside petroleum Sector).
Definition: Hazard Materials Transportation Studies through Roads/Pipelines Objective: Is a study to determine the expected risks related to hazard materials transportation. • Determination of expected risks related to transportation. • Setting procedures to mitigate the probability of risks occurrence during transportation.
Site tours to the used transportation roads/ pipelines. • Checking surrounding area during transportation. • Determining impacts of hazard materials on environment and humans. • Preparing the report including comments/ recommendations and instructions how to handle and transport that material safely according to local/ international standards.
