Zunh Doz/Sermon The Comfort of Christ’s Coming Yesu Zoix Daaih Maaih Orn Lorqc 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 Yauzsing Zeuz
The Comfort of Christ’s Coming Introduction: The pagan world had no word of assurance or hope of life after death. But believers in Paul’s day believe in and hope for imminent return of Christ. The believers were living in expectation of Christ’s return because they were persecuted, yet their main concerned was about their loved one who had died. They wonder what happened to the Christians who die before Christ’s return? Will living Christians had advantage over those who died? Apostle answered their questions and comfort them on five facts.
The Comfort of Christ’s Coming A. The Revelation (4:13,15) 1. Mortal man can not find peace and assurance or clue to mystery of life after death. 2. We have God’s truth, Paul said, “For this we say to you by the word of the Lord…” (v.15) or that this is special revelation from God to him concerning the resurrection and the return of Christ. 3. Since Jesus our Lord conquered death, His followers need not to fear death or the future (1 Cor. 15:12) 4.Christians need not wonder about death or life after death, because God’s word told us what would happened. The authority of God’s word gives us the assurance and comfortwe need
The Comfort of Christ’s Coming B. The Return (4:14-15) 1. Jesus Christ is coming again, he said, “I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may bealso.” (John 14:2-3) 2. The definition of death is given in James 2:26 “For just as the body without the spirit is dead…” at death, believers spirit leaves the body to be present with the Lord (2 Cor. 5:8; Phil. 1:23) and the body goes to sleep. When Jesus return he will bring with him “those who have fallen asleep in Jesus” 3. The return of Christ could happen at any moment, Whether Christians live or die, we have nothing to fear because Jesus will come either with us or for us. The fact of his return is comforting to us.
The Comfort of Christ’s Coming C. The Resurrection (4:15-16) 1. When Jesus returns in the air, he will issue the shout of command and “and the dead in Christ will rise first” 2. Paul said the resurrection of human body is like the growing of a plant from a seed (1 Cor. 15:35-54) The dead body is the “seed” that is planted in the ground; the resurrection body is the “plant or flower” that comes from seed” 3. For Christian death is not the end, when believer died the body goes to sleep but the soul goes to be with the Lord, when Christ return, He will bring the soul with Him, will raise the body in glory and will reunite body and soul into one being ( Phil. 3:20-21; 1 Cor. 15:47-58). . We can have comfort in the face of death.
The Comfort of Christ’s Coming D. The Rapture (4:17) 1. Rapture is Christ taking us away. The living believer will be caught up in the twinkling of an eye (1 Cor. 15:52). Therefore we should live each moment in expectation of Christ’s return 2. Rapture is moving to a new place. Jesus has been preparing place for us (John 14:1-6) when he come he will take us to that place because we are pilgrims and stranger in this world or citizenship is in heaven (Phil. 3:20-21) 3. Rapture is God rescue believers from the danger before the time of tribulation 4. Rapture is Christ’s coming to claim his bride (the church)
The Comfort of Christ’s Coming E. The Reunion (4:17-18) 1. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 2. The reunion with The Lord in the air as we will see “Him as He is” and become like him (1 John 3:1-2) 3. The reunion with our loved one who “died in Christ” “together with them” 4. This is everlasting reunion, we will always be with the Lord and our love one who died in the Lord.
Application of principle to practice: 1. Paul said “therefore comfort one another with these words.” (v.17) 2. We have comfort when Christ come because the dead in Christ will be resurrected 3. We have comfort when Christ come because believer will be reunited with their love one and the Lord “together with them” (v.17) 4. We have comfort when Christ come because we will “always be with the Lord” (v.17; John 14:3) 5. Are you ready to meet the Lord…are you looking forward to meeting Him?
