  27. Zunh Doz/Sermon Apologetics:“Always being ready to make a defense…” 1 Peter 3:15 Yauzsing Zeuz

  28. Apologetics: ready to make a defense Introduction: Apostle Paul stated in Phil. 1:16-17 that he was “appointed for the defense of the gospel”. In 1 Peter 3:1-15, Apostle Peter exhorted the believers to live in a godly manner before unbelievers and to “always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you…” Both Paul and Peter insisted that believers in Jesus Christ must understand what they believe, why they believe, and be able to defend their beliefs and the hope that they have in Jesus.

  29. Apologetics: ready to make a defense A. How do I know that there is God? 1. The argument from cause: the universe and nature demands a Creator (Heb. 3:4) 2. The argument from design: Houses are designed by architects, watches are proof of a watchmaker. The design of the universe shows that someone planned it. 3. The moral argument: The are certain well-defined standards of right and wrong. The existence of moral standards and of conscience demands the existence of a standard giver. Holy God is the only explanation. 4. The universal belief of mankind: Every human being believe in some kind of higher being. 5. The testimony of the Bible… (Gen. 1:11; 2:4 “In the beginning God created the heavens and earth.”)

  30. Apologetics: ready to make a defense B. What is God like? (God’s Attributes) 1. God is immutatble: God is absolutely perfect. He will not increase or decrease (Mal. 3:6) 2. God is omniscient: He has indifinite intelligence. He knows all (Psa. 147:4-5; Prov. 15:3; Matt. 10:29; Psa. 139:2-3) 3. God is ominipotent: God is all powerful; He is unlimited in power. (Job. 42:2; Psa. 33:6-9; Isa. 59:1-2; James 4:12-15) 4. God is omnipresent: God is present everywhere (1 Kings 8:27; Psa. 139:7-10; Acts 17:24-28) 5. God is eternal: He is without beginning and without end (Psa. 90:1-2;102:24-27; Exo. 3:14) 6. God is sovereign: He has absolute power and is above all created things (1 Tim. 6:15-16; Rev. 4:11; Rom. 9:15,20-21)

  31. Apologetics: ready to make a defense C. Why do I need God? 1. Man was created by God (Gen. 1:27;2:7; 9:6) 2. Man was not created a sinner; but man became a sinner by his own conscious and voluntary choice (Gen. 3:6; Rom 5:12; 1 Tim. 2:4) 3. The result of the Fall: man has no love for God, man’s moral nature was corrupted and therefore have tendencies toward evil (Rom. 3:9-12, 23; 5:12-16; 1 John 1:8-10). 4. The penalty of sin is physical death (Gen. 2:17; 3:19) and spiritual death (separation of soul from God) (Rom. 5:21; Eph. 2:1,5)

  32. Apologetics: ready to make a defense D. How can I have personal relationship with this God? 1. God is the source of salvation (Eph. 2:1-3). God the Father sent His Son Jesus to die, making forgiveness possible. 2. We all need salvation because we all have sin (Rom. 3:23). Jesus told Nicodemus, he must be born again (John 2:3-7) 3. Repent and believe in Jesus Christ and you will be saved (Rom 10:9; Acts 16:31) 4. God declare everyone that believe in Jesus “righteous” (Acts 13:29; 2 Cor. 5:21) 5. Believers in Jesus have peace with God (Rom. 5:1) and are placed in the position of sonship (Gal. 4:1-5)

  33. Application of principle to practice: 1. How do you know that there is God? Creation demands a Creator (Psa. 19:1; Rom. 1:20-21) 2. God’s attributes and His nature are reflected in His Word. He lets us know what He is like. 3. We all need God because we are all sinners. Sinners need a Saviour; and that Saviour is Jesus. 4. You can have personal relationship with Jesus if you recognize who He is (Holy God), who you are (Sinner), accept Him by faith and you will be saved. Your salvation is a gift from God.
