What was the incident? • The incident I researched was when an 8 year old girl named Rawan, was married to a 40 year old man, and they had sex of their wedding night. Rawan suffered from bleeding and uterine rupture which caused her death.
What led up to the incident? • The parents face the burden of providing the girl with food and clothes, so they marry her off to an older man and the marriage bring a dowry to the brides family
The result of the incident • They toke Rawan to a clinic but they couldn’t save her, she died and the local officials tried to cover the story up • Countries where economies have blossomed, like Thailand, South Korea, and Taiwan, have seen rates of child marriage fall
Why did this topic interest me? • This topic interested me because marriage should be filled with joy and celebration but the young girls are forced into the marriage and they don’t have a choice in it which upsets me.
