Origins of Cijin • In old Kaohsiung , Cijin Island was called the “Chihou peninsula.” It was the first Chinese settlement in the Kaohsiung area and remains an important location to all the city's residents. On the western side of the city, it is essentially a long, thin sandbar measuring eleven kilometers in length, and only two hundred meters wide.
Origins of Cijin 2 • After links to the main city were opened up, including a tunnel that runs under the harbor to the island and an excellent ferry service, Cijin took off as a popular destination for city residents looking for a little beachside relaxation close at hand.

The Cijin lighthouse • After the city of Takou (now Kaohsiung ) became a trading port, the Cijin lighthouse was built in 1883 ensure the safety of the many ships entering the port. The Japanese completely remodeled the lighthouse in 1918 to its current white, Baroque style design. The environment around the tower is quiet and inviting. Visiting it requires quite an uphill climb, but the view is entirely worth it. Not only will you have a bird's eye view of entering ships, but the view of Shi-tzu Bay back on the Kaohsiung side of the harbor is also stunning.
The Cijin Beach Park • The Cijin Beach Park extends from beneath the Cihou cliffs in the north to the water treatment plant three kilometers to the south. The beach area includes a swimming area, a long scenic pathway, and an area for off-roading. It also includes four different natural ecology preserves showcasing different area ecosystems.
The Chihou Fort • The Chihou Fort on Cijin and the smaller Harbor Entrance Fort directly opposite each other across the harbor mouth worked as a pair to defend Kaohsiung Harbor .Features of note include the great gate, the carvings of the “double happiness” character, carvings of bats, and many other traditionally meaningful carvings.
The Seacoast Biking Route • Cijin's 17-Kilometer-length biking route is divided into 2 branches—people can experience culture and customs if taking Cijin biking route and feel the natural environment if taking along the seacoast biking route. Connected with the ordinary roads, visitors can take a good look the historic architectures such as such as Cijin Lighthouse, Cihou fortress, Cihou Temple, Seacoast Park and Windmill Park.
Cijin Fishing Port • Not long ago, Kaohsiung Government cooperated with the funding of local business building up a shining pier as one of the tourists favorite spots at Cijin, located just against Fishing Wharf . Visitors probablybuy some fresh seafood and cooked at once at the fish market. After 5-miniute-journey, an outstanding ship-shaped architecture build along a long riverbank creates a rather romantic and tranquil atmosphere especially at night.
