  1. Authentic Manhood Winning at Work & Home Session 11: A Man and His Work

  2. Mirror, Mirror on the Wall The Secret of the First Mirror: When it comes to home, the difference between average and winning big is often in a few, small, unnatural but “on target” behavioral adjustments a man chooses to make.

  3. Some Introductory Thoughts About Work A. Most men define themselves by what they do.

  4. Some Introductory Thoughts About Work B. According to Psychology Today... “one’s career is probably the most important influence on one’s perception of ‘quality of life.’”

  5. Some Introductory Thoughts About Work C. Men spend more time in the workplace than anywhere else. • 60 - 65% of our time is at work • 30 - 35% of our time is with family and personal interests • 0 - 10% of our time is in church activities

  6. Some Introductory Thoughts About Work D. According to a Gallup Survey, almost 80% of men feel miscast in their jobs.

  7. Some Introductory Thoughts About Work E. Finding deeper meaning and purpose in work is becoming more and more important for those in a career or choosing one.

  8. Some Introductory Thoughts About Work F. Work and work related issues are chief topics of the Bible. The Bible addresses work even more than it does the family.

  9. Some Introductory Thoughts About Work G. 90% of all Christians have never read a book, heard a sermon, or listened to a tape that focuses specifically on the work place.

  10. Some Introductory Thoughts About Work H. Many Christian men do not know how to take Jesus Christ with them to work. Therefore, Jesus is left at home and the workplace becomes a spiritually barren, secular experience.

  11. Some Introductory Thoughts About Work I. Many Christian men have haunting, unanswered questions when it comes to their work. 1. Is there one right job for me? 2. Does my work really matter to God? 3. How does God work at work? 4. How much work is too much?

  12. Why work? Because I can serve and glorify God in my work and spiritually impact people. Purpose Driven Because I can earn money that I can give to advance God’s Kingdom on Earth. Because I can earn money that I can give to help others. Philanthropy Driven Because I do something through my work that is helpful and of service to others. Because I desire to accomplish something meaningful to me. Passion Driven Because I desire to have a certain standard of living. Paycheck Driven Because I want to meet my needs and the needs of my family. Because I have to.

  13. Observations 1. The Scripture affirms each of these motivations.

  14. Because I have to. For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either. 2 Thessalonians 3:10

  15. Because I want to meet my needs and the needs of my family. But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8

  16. Because I desire to have a certain standard of living. Furthermore, as for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, He has also empowered him to eat from them and to receive his reward and rejoice in his labor; this is the gift from God. Ecclesiastes 5:19

  17. Because I desire to accomplish something meaningful to me. There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labor is good. This also I have seen that it is from the hand of God. Ecclesiastes 2:24

  18. Because I seek to do something through my work that is helpful and of service to others. As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 4:10

  19. Because I can earn money that I can give to help others. Let a man work, performing with his own hands what is good so that he will have something to share with one who has need. Ephesians 4:28

  20. Because I can earn money that I can give to advance God’s Kingdom on Earth. Honor the Lord from your wealth and from the firsts of all your produce. Proverbs 3:9

  21. Because I can serve and glorify God in my work and spiritually impact people. Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men ... It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. Colossians 3:23-24

  22. Observations 1. The Scripture affirms each of these motivations. 2. The more of these motivations a man has in his work, the more motivated he will be in his job. 3. The more of these motivations a man has in his work, the bigger perspective he will have of his job. 4. The more success a man experiences with each of these motivations, the happier and more personally fulfilled he will be in his work.

  23. What Men Want From Their Work A. Success B. Recognition C. Fit D. Fair Compensation E. Community F. Balance

  24. What a Man Needs to Have to Get What He Wants From His Work A. A higher view of work • God’s view B. A courageous approach with work • Don’t settle for anything less than the right fit. C.
