4. Fulbright Program • The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. • It is designed to “increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” • The Fulbright Program has provided almost 300,000 participants—chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential — with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns. • NOTE: The term "Fulbright Program" encompasses a variety of exchange programs, including both individual and institutional grants. 5. International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) • IREX is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting advanced field research and professional training programs between the United States and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Eurasia, China, and comparable contiguous societies (includes some grants). • Learn more at: www.irex.org

11. CIEE CIEE – Council on International Educational Exchange—provides 1-2 week intensive overseas programs for U.S. faculty and administrators (Feb deadline). Learn more at: http://www.ciee.org/ifds/seminars/index.aspx

12. Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program The program is open to educators and administrators with responsibilities for curriculum development in fields related to humanities, languages, and area studies. Topics and host countries of the seminars vary from year to year. All seminars are in non-Western European countries. The program is geared towards those educators with little or no experience in the host country(ies) who demonstrate the need to develop and enhance their curriculum through short-term study and travel abroad. 13. Fulbright Specialist Program A short-term complement to the core Fulbright Scholar Program, sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning and related subjects at overseas academic institutions. Fulbright SIR Program Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program enables U.S. colleges and universities to host foreign academics (non- US scholars through lecture grants) to lecture on a wide range of subject fields. English Language Fellow Programa Department of State program administered by Georgetown University elf.georgetown.edu/ • MA in TEFL/TESOL or related field with substantial post MA teacher/curriculum development experience. • Senior Fellows apply before March 31 for the following academic year. • Serve as teacher trainers, curriculum and program developers, evaluations and needs analyses. • Full living allowance, airfare and 25-35K stipend

17. Leading Study Abroad Trips Faculty-led Programs • SCCD faculty may organize study abroad trips to a variety of destinations. If you are a faculty member and would like to organize a study abroad trip for the SCCD, please contact Andrea Insley, Executive Director, SCCD Global Initiatives or the International Programs Executive Director on your campus for details and a proposal packet. • Through our membership in the Washington Community College Consortium for Study Abroad (WCCCSA), faculty may apply to lead /teach in a quarter length study abroad program. Contact the International Programs office at your campus or watch for periodic emails inviting these faculty proposals.

18. Global Impact Seattle Community College District students, faculty and staff partnering with Seattle-area medical, educational and service-oriented community organizations to deliver healthcare and volunteer service in developing countries. The Seattle Community College District sponsors global health service learning programs every summer. Sites have included Belize, India, Vietnam, Peru, Tanzania and Ghana.
