TechYES program enhances technology literacy skills in middle schoolers through projects aligned with national standards. Students create projects on various subjects for certification. Peer mentors assist through evaluation process.

Background • No Child Left Behind Act • Federal Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) Grant • Partnership between Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES and Generation YES Corporation • New York State Student Technology Leaders (NYSSTL) formed
Generation YES Corporation • Washington State Grant • Formed Generation YES Corporation • Began as a professional development model, now called GenYES • Expanded programs to include TechYES for student technology literacy
Technology Literacy: TechYES • Students must be “Technology Literate” by the end of eighth grade • NYS adopted ISTE NETS-s standards • TechYES meets national and state standards for technology literacy
Technology Literacy: TechYES • Students in selected grade level receive TechYES Student Guide • Must sign contract for Chapters 2 & 3 • “Internet Safety and Ethics” • “Becoming a Web Critic • Project work begins

Technology Literacy: TechYES • Students create a project description online • Students complete online planning form • Projects are not uploaded to website
Technology Literacy: TechYES • Projects can be about any subject • May fit into your class curriculum • May be for another class • May be students’ choice • Can be tailored to nearly any subject
