  4. Distinguished Achievement Recommended Plan with the following additional requirements: * 3rd year foreign language • Additional requirements attempted during sophomore, junior, and senior year… next page

Distinguished Achievement * Additional science required if science entry level was IPC (5 credits of science) * Any combination of four of following: • Score of three or higher on any Advanced Placement Exam • GPA of 3.0 or higher on an academic college course taken while in high school (Dual • Credit courses will satisfy this requirement) • Original research project under specific • guidelines • Selection as National Merit Finalist, Semi- Finalist, Commended, National Hispanic, • or National Achievement

  10. As courses are being selected… Career Cruising has provided a built in “warning system”: Red stop sign: Do not have proper prerequisite or teacher approval Blue stop sign: Another course needs to be scheduled in conjunction with the selected courses

  11. Do not complete courses in grades beyond next year …. It will affect your ability to select certain courses.

  12. Due Date: ASAP!!!!!! YOU: enter information online… WE: review selections with you individually through English classes. • Junior to Senior: Begin February 1st • Soph. to Junior: Begin February 9th

  13. Come to the Counseling Office with a plan … 1)Print and bring your copy of course selections from Career Cruising to Counseling Office. 2) Write down questions.

  14. Course Planning Must include courses failed during 1st semester ! Example: English III A ½ year Elective

Required Courses Juniors to Seniors • English IV, Government, Economics • Math, Science – need 4 years of both • Other required courses as needed - Check Graduation Plan and # of credits Sophomores to Juniors • English III, U.S. History, Math, Science • Other required courses as needed - Check pathway and # of credits Explore possibility of taking courses beyond requirements…GPA EXEMPT

  16. GPA EXEMPT • Credit is awarded, but courses must not be required by graduation plan Does not affect GPA. Use if interested in taking an upper level course, but fear a poor or failing grade Use on elective courses if a high grade could possibly lower your GPA. Example: 12.83 GPA … a grade of 98- 100 (12.0) would lower your GPA Declare first 3 weeks of each semester

TCC / UTA DUAL CREDIT • Counts as high school AND college credit • To enroll: Requires a “B” average, 16 credits, and must pass the ACCUPLACER (college placement exam) • Does not affect GPA • Must have full schedule on days that Dual Credit classes are scheduled: 3 classes + Dual Credit • Courses may be taken during the • summer or regular school term • Student fee of $50.00 per semester • course (TCC)

  19. TCC / UTA DUAL CREDIT Must earn a 70 to receive high school credit … 60 is passing grade for college • Failing a dual credit course results in a failing grade on college transcript. Please be careful to consider UIL eligibility issues that may arise during the course of the year. 4. May only take 2 Dual Credit courses per semester.

  26. Special Opportunities Who: Juniors interested in the pursuit of life goals that include volunteer and/or elected public service. What: After successfully completing a year of internships and mentoring, selected students will be eligible for a $10,000 scholarship at $2,500 per year. How: Application and interview process. Criteria For Selection: Current Junior, Minimum 3.0 GPA, recommendations, leadership / extra-curricular activities / community service, interest in and commitment to active participation in the program .   27. Special Opportunities TCC Tech Prep Program: College credit awarded for high school career / technology courses. Process: 1) Take high school Tech Prep courses in technical area 2) Register online at TCC to show interest in Tech Prep 3) Enroll after graduation at TCC and declare major in technical area 4) Take validating course at TCC and make a “C” or higher in course 5) College credit awarded for high school courses: 3 to 12 credit hours can be awarded in addition to the validating credit

Juniors…..TAKS!!! • Must pass all 4 components to graduate: English / Language Arts (Reading and Writing), Math, Science, and Social Studies • Pass TAKS the first time…you are finished with TAKS testing!!!! • Scores can exempt you from THEA… college placementexam: • Reading > 2200 • Writing > 3 • Math > 2200
