How do cacti survive without water? • Like all plants cacti need water but they only need it about once a month. The reason why they don’t need that much water because they don’t have any leaves so the water the cacti drinks isn’t used as much then from a normal plant. Besides, cacti have thick stalks which store water so, even in the driest places all the cacti there will stay hydrated!
Why do cacti have spines? • Cacti have spines for two reasons: • Firstly for protection. The spines keep any desert animals from eating it. This also helps it to reproduce. • The spines also act as the cacti’s leaves reducing how much water it takes in
What do Polar Bears need to survive? • Polar bears need a lot of things to survive. Some of them are: • Fur: Polar Bears need fur to keep warm in the freezing temperatures of the arctic. Although Polar Bears have white fur their skin is black! Each hair reflects transparent light and is pigment-free. The hairs are also like little tubes which traps heat – this is how Polar Bears are adapted to the cold. • Food: Also to survive, a Polar Bear needs food. Polar Bears normally eat seals but they also eat arctic foxes, reindeer, rodents, musk ox, fish, shellfish, eggs and seabirds. • Water: Polar Bears need water which they will probably get from the sea.
