Warm-up Conversation FIND SOMEONE WHO... - read a newspaper in the last week. - watched the news yesterday. - grew up in the city. - played a computer game in the last week. ate breakfast this morning. took the bus to school. - had something repaired in the last few months. had a drink with friends in the last week. went shopping on the weekend. had a date in the last month.

  2. Interview as many of the people in the class as you can (MAX. 2 questions each) • Try to find someone for each who answers “YES” • ask at least three (3) follow-up questions to each person who says “yes” • write down their answers (in note form) so that you can remember what they told you.

B, C C. • Paula said [that] she didn’t want to go to Claire’s party. • Sam told me that he and Sarah were going camping. • Lisa said that I wouldn’t believe the news. • Gary said that he could come to my party next week. • Amanda told me that she was sure that Rick wanted to go out with me.

  5. Now report these statements • He said: “I haven’t taken that class yet.” • I said: “They have been working on their project all semester.” • They said: “We can have our hair cut at the salon.” • She told me: “I can’t get the doctor to see me.”

  6. Tell your new partner what you learned from everyone during “Find Someone Who” EX. Tim read a newspaper yesterday. He told me that he read the sports page. Tim said he... Etc...

  7. A recent accomplishment Have an open conversation with your partner. • You can use any vocabulary and grammar that is useful. • Stay on the topic of “recent accomplishments”. • Try to remember the general ideas that your partner shares with you. Consider these kinds of accomplishment: • your school life; academics or club activities • personal growth; plans, new knowledge, etc. • social life; relationships, etc. Talk for a full 5 minutes.

  8. With your new partner: • Briefly report what your partner told you: • just the highlights (important things you remember) • use reported speech as much as you can • EX. He said... She told me... *I told him/her... I said...

  9. Interview your new partner on two topicsEClass sheet write down your partner’s information: you don’t have to write down the questions 1. A Recent Accomplishment 2. An Important Goal this year You have about 10 minutes to ask each other about the topics above.

  10. Use the half-sheet of paper to write a full paragraph about your partner’s information: • accomplishments • goals • or both Use reported speech as much as you can.
