Guilds • Organization of people in the same craft or trade • Reasons for a guild… Controlled hours Set prices Trained workers • Apprentice: a person who works for a master tradesman in return for training Starting around age 12 a boy would be an apprentice for ~7 yrs. • Master: created a masterpiece and started a business, but this was expensive so…. • Journeyman: worked day by day instead of having your own business

  5. Are Unions helpful to our society? YES NO Takes away the freedom of the owner Raises prices of products Some workers might not be doing their best • Training/advice/help • Earn a fair wage • Protection of members • Safety • Hours • Quality product
