  2. What is a GENRE?

  3. A type of category that each story/book can be labeled by.

  4. FICTION books are made up stories. There are 6 types of fictional writing.

  5. Traditional Literature are stories passed down from one group to another in history. This includes folktales, legends, fables, fairy tales, tall tales, and myths

  6. Fantasy –stories including elements that are impossible such as talking animals or magical powers. Make –believe is a big part of fantasy

  7. Science Fiction: a type of fantasy that uses science and technology (robots, time machines, etc)

  8. Realistic Fiction: story using made up characters that could happen in real life

  9. Historical Fiction:fictional story that takes place in a particular time period in the past. Often the setting is real, but the characters are made up

  10. Mystery: A suspenseful story about a puzzling event that is not solved until the end of the story

  11. Non-FICTION books are true stories. There are 3 types of non fictional writings

  12. Informational: texts that provide facts about a variety of topics (sports, animals, science, history, travel, etc)

  13. Biography: The story of a real person’s life written by another person

  14. AUTO-Biography:The story of a real person’s life written by that person

  15. Poetry: Poetry is verse written to create a response of thought and feeling from the reader. It often uses rhyme and rhythm to convey a meaning
