  1. Textile Designers working with an americanweaving millto produce custom fabric? No Way? What’s so special about Thistle Hill? After all we can get it made in………

  2. Who we are We make custom woven goods from idea to installation

  3. We weave custom carpet, furnishing fabrics, drapery, suiting, trim…

  4. We began by doing a lot of historic reproduction

  5. Then we started working with the movies

  6. And with designers

  7. On all sorts of projects, from suiting to bed covers to handbags

  8. What turns us on? • Meeting challenges • Developing new fabrics • Thinking projects thru from start to finish • Being environmentally conscious • Getting to work with creative people • Doing things that we are told cant be done • And making it work economically

  9. Greg LaVoi’s Irene Collection

  10. Why work with us? (the good things) • We create hand samples with many options • We do short runs (20 yards) • We work closely with you to develop a product • We advise you how to make an idea commercially viable • We are weavers with great loom capacity

  11. But you need to know (the tough things): • We are expensive • It takes a long time • You must be prepared to commit to 1-2 years of development before you have a product to work with

  12. Why woven?

  13. Because woven is the Luxury end of the spectrum More luxurious than knitted • Or felted • Or printed even on silk… • Because it has many more options • It is more expensive so…… • If you are spending the time and money to develop custom you are already in the expensive market……

  14. And if you want to be haute, you want woven

  15. How it works • You have an idea • We ask for your absolute best list of parameters • We discuss fibers and yarns • We order appropriate yarns or have them made • We weave hand samples • You choose some version • We weave more hand samples • Until we get it right and ready for a short run….

  16. Fiber • We work in natural fibers • We work with Metallics • We work with novelty yarns • We are able to have special yarns developed • Natural fibers can be changed greatly in the finishing process,

  17. Custom Dyeing and stock colors • Stock colors are usually less expensive but not always • We have access to custom dyeing on almost all of our yarns • Organic dyeing is prohibitive

  18. Weaving capacity • Multishaft dobby designs • Jacquard with limited density options • Some four shuttle capability • Some with two shuttle capability

  19. Our equipment is unique today in the textile industry • Re purposed looms • Using old technology that is more adaptable • We are innovative “short order cooks” • We make the looms do what they need to do • We have good welders, and lots of parts!
