Objectives • Understand how the Horizon Report can be used to plan for effective technology adoption. • Identify resources and models (shared through the annual Horizon Report) that can promote effective technology integration.
When Alice in Wonderland was trying to decide which way to go during her travels, she asked the Cheshire Cat,
"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where," said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.
If you don’t care where you are going, then it really doesn't’t matter which choice you make. However, if you do care where you are going and if you know where that is, then it not only makes a difference which way you go, but it makes it easier for you to decide.
WHICH WAY? Deciding which way to go requires first that you decide where you want to go to.

Horizon Top 10 Technology drivers • Cloud-based tools are enabling rapid innovation across educational environments. • Computer-based assessment and feedback, along with ICT support for personalization, are becoming increasingly important. • Openness-concepts like open content, open data, and open resources, along with notions of transparency and easy access to data and information-is becoming more valuable. • People expect to be able to work, learn, and study whenever and wherever they want. • Massive open online courses are being widely explored as alternatives and supplements to traditional university courses, especially in STEM+ disciplines.
Horizon Report • A comprehensive research venture established in 2002 by the News Media Consortium that identifies and describes emerging technologies likely to have a large impact over the coming five years in education around the globe. 1 Year or less adoption-Mobile learning Tablets, smartphones, and mobile apps have become too capable, too ubiquitous, and too useful to ignore, and their distribution defies traditional patterns of adoption, both by consumers, where even economically disadvantaged families find ways to make use of mobile technology, and in schools, where the tide of opinion has dramatically shifted when it comes to mobiles in schools.
